25% Leap in Mobile Internet UseNew statistics just compiled by nalyst firm Nielsen Online, show that the amount of people accessing the internet via their mobile phone has leaped forward by 25% while the number of people going online via a PC is slowing.

Over 7m people accessed the net via their mobile phones during the second and third quarters of 2008. This is an increase of around 25% compared to the PC-based net audience which showed a growth of just 3% to now more than 35m.

The statistics also show that the mobile net audience was younger and searched for different things.

Searching news

While Google remains the most popular site for those logging on via their PC, on the mobile internet, the BBC News is the most visited site, with nearly a quarter of mobile internet consumers using it.

This highlights the advantage mobile has when it comes to immediacy, people often need fast instant access to weather, sports news or the latest information in general and mobile media can obviously satisfy this demand.
